NAIOP DC MD Recognizes 2100 L Street and RiverPoint with Awards

Akridge and Partners Win Awards For Best Amenity Space And Best Retail Project

(Washington, DC)—NAIOP DC l MD honored Akridge with two awards at its annual Awards of Excellence event. Akridge projects 2100 L Street and RiverPoint won an Award of Excellence for Best Amenity Space and an Award of Merit for Best Retail Transaction: Tenant Lease 0 – 20,000 Square Feet, respectively. The awards are a testament to Akridge’s dedication to building innovative and iconic properties and its commitment to the community.

2100 L Street delivered in 2020 and is a 10-story, 190,000-square-foot trophy office property in DC’s central business district. Partners Akridge, COPT, and Argos Group developed 2100 L Street in conjunction with redeveloping the historic Thaddeus Stevens School. NAIOP DC|MD honored the building with the Best Amenity Space Award for Willowtop—2100 L Street’s stunning rooftop terrace and lounge. With lush landscaping, a sophisticated lounge, and an adjacent penthouse conference room (Oakside), Willowtop blurs the line between indoors and out and creates an urban oasis for the Clients of 2100 L Street. WDG and OTJ Architects were the building’s architects and Davis Construction was the general contractor.

RiverPoint was developed by Akridge, Western Development Corporation, and Orr Partners in DC’s new Buzzard Point neighborhood. It features more than 445,000 square feet of elevated living space, 44,000 square feet of amenity space and 73,000 square feet of retail space. In April 2021, renowned DC restauranteur Greg Casten opened The Point, at RiverPoint, bringing the first food and beverage location to Buzzard Point. The restaurant specializes in open-flame cooking of fresh, local seafood and features a massive 150-seat patio with unmatched panoramic views of the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers. Casten has pledged to employ graduates of DC Central Kitchen (DCCK), a nonprofit that provides culinary training to those facing high barriers to employment. DCCK is headquartered at RiverPoint and The Point deepens the building and restaurant’s connections to the community. The Point is packed every weekend and has become a popular location for special events. It not only created a destination restaurant, but The Point also helped put Buzzard Point on the map.

“Akridge is proud of the 2100 L Street and RiverPoint teams for earning these prestigious awards,” said Akridge President Matt Klein. “NAIOP’s recognition of 2100 L Street and RiverPoint is a testament to our dedication to building communities and transformative properties.”
